Position: Qualified Electrician

Description:

Our client, located in Blackheath SE3, is seeking to recruit a Qualified Electrician to commence on a temporary basis with a view to going permanent after a qualifying period.

You would be carrying out all works in respect of repairs or maintenance to the electrical distribution system (LV) and electrical equipment as directed by the Maintenance & Security Manager and giving technical advice to the Head of Property and Maintenance & Security Manager.


KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Liaise with the Maintenance & Security Manager, ensure all maintenance tools and equipment is tested and maintained in accordance with BS 7671.
  • Carry out electrical repair works, emergency repairs and required new works in accordance with the Electricity at Work Regulations, the latest edition of BS 7671 and the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Carry out statutory inspection, testing and repairs of emergency lighting, fire alarm systems and call systems as required.
  • Provide advice on electrical matters to the Works Manager and to the Maintenance & Security Manager.
  • Act as general labourer/semi-skilled worker when required to ensure the smooth running of all the departments.
  • Attend any course required to keep abreast of current practice and H&S awareness.
  • Provide materials lists for all jobs to assist the efficient ordering and purchase of materials.   Maintaining a small stock of ready use items under the control of the Maintenance & Security Manager.
  • Join the Duty Engineer Roster to assist in dealing with on-site emergencies out of normal working hours.  Duties will not commence until there has been adequate familiarisation with the site.  The Duty Engineer is on call for a period of 7 days (approximately 1 week in every 7 weeks).  Out of hours will consist of 5pm through to 8am on weekdays, and from 4pm Friday through to 8am on the following Monday to cover weekends.
  • To carry out any other tasks commensurate with the effective maintenance of the establishment as directed by the Maintenance & Security Manager or Head of Property.

 

Criteria Required:

  • An enthusiastic and self-motivated electrician with a customer-oriented approach.
  • The successful candidate must have a positive attitude towards work and be a team player as well as being able to work alone or without any supervision.
  • Good communication skills (both verbally and written) is also essential as the role will be dealing with our beneficiaries and tenants on a daily basis.
  • The individual needs to have a clean driving licence, access to a vehicle, and their own hand tools, however our client will provide you with a uniform and PPE to use when on duty.
  • The individual will be required to attend to both domestic properties for our beneficiaries and commercial/private tenants to carry out a range of electrical contracting duties, which can include rewires, new installations, consumer unit upgrades, testing, fault finding.
  • The individual will have a recognised electricianís qualification including City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing level 3 with City & Guilds Electrical Engineering National Award Level 4 (C-Cert for the electrical technician) or equivalent and a 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations qualification being essential, with experience of fault finding and testing of domestic electrical circuits preferred. 

The interview/selection process will consist of a values-based assessment, and competency interview and may also include a practical element.

Salary: £ 19.25 per hour
